Emerson Hart: Exclusive Interview

Emerson Hart made his start with the alternative rock band Tonic which are known for the hit songs “Open Up Your Eyes” and “If You Could Only See” in the late 90s. Since the breakup of the band Hart has developed as a solo artist releasing two albums, one in 2007 and one in April of 2014 which included the single ” The Best That I Can Give”.

Emerson Hart took the time out of his busy schedule to sit down with “I’m All Ears” Music Blog to talk about his solo career and the man behind the music. Please note that the interview questions were sent to Hart’s PR contact before the release of his album, and some questions may show that. Sorry it took so long to post it, things have been pretty hectic. Here’s what Mr. Hart had to say.

Taylor: Your new album is releasing on April 15th, anything big planned for the release?

Emerson: I will be touring this record so I don’t have any huge plans for release day. I will do something special in Nashville but still working on that.

Taylor: How long did it take you create the album?

Emerson: As far as recording goes it took a little under a year as we would take breaks to live with it. The writing part is a collection of keepers(songs I felt told the story) from when I toured cigarettes and Gasoline till now.

Taylor: What’s your favorite song on the album?

Emerson: Thats a hard one….Probably “You Know Who I Am” and “Hurricane”

emersonhartbyandreabehrendsTaylor: “The Best That I Can Give” is one of the songs on your album, does it represent an event that happened in your life?

Emerson: Everything I write represents something that i live through or see happen in my life. I carried a lot of baggage from my last relationship into my current one and it nearly destroyed it. I won’t ever let that kind of fear ruin my future again. In the end the song says goodbye but it really says drop the past and fight for the now.

Taylor: What are your musical influences and how have they shaped the kind of music you like to write and perform?

Emerson: I grew up with older sisters so its really a mix of hard rock and early 80’s pop. I was lucky to be exposed to a lot of great music and I try not to get stuck in a music rut. There is always new music to find.

Taylor: How many albums have you released so far in your career?

Emerson: Five Tonic records and this is my second solo record so its a solid 7

Taylor: What artist would you like to work with the most and why?

Emerson: Tom Petty. I love his process.

Taylor: Have you ever had a song in a movie, tv show, etc? What movie or tv show would you like seeing your music on?

Emerson:between Tonic and my cigarettes and gasoline release I have had a lot of song placement’s. Very lucky for that. I love movies and I love TV and I am always amazed at how the marriage of music can really move you. I Love the show the Blacklist and would love to get some thing on there.

wxb8Taylor: What is your favorite venue to play at?

Emerson: That really depends? I Love small theaters and listening rooms.

Taylor: If you could describe your music in one word, what would that word be?

Emerson: webster says the third definition of “Experience” is “the conscious events that make up an individual life”….I go with that for now.
