The Icarus Account is two man acoustic indie pop duo made up of two twin brothers, Trey and Ty Turner. They began to play music at the age of 12, when they learned to play guitar and much of their musical talent evolved from there. Their love for music continues to grow as they aspire to bring moving music to their fans. Their recent album “Carry Me Home” was released on August 28th, 2013 which tells the story of their beginning in 2006 to the various life events that have occurred since then, like the divorce of their parents. The album provides a sense of normalcy to fans, showing that not only does certain life events happen to normal people but they also happen to celebrities or people in the spotlight.
I was able to conduct an interview with The Icarus Account this past September. Due to their busy schedule they weren’t able to respond until this past week. Enjoy “I’m All Ears” interview with The Icarus Account
I hear you guys are going on tour next week, anything your looking forward to?
IC: Well that’s a little overdue 😉 We always look forward to getting out on the road and meeting our fans face to face. We are pretty down to earth people so we like to meet our fans and really engage with them, talk to them about life, maybe even go out to eat with them after a show. Connecting with people and hearing about how our music has impacted their lives is one of the coolest parts of the job!
What song does your fans most want to hear?
IC: “Favorite Girl” has been our most popular song since we released it at the end of 2010. I’m not sure what it is about the song specifically, but it is the most requested song at our shows by far.
How long did it take you guys to become verified on twitter?
IC: Honestly I’m not even sure! IT was probably a couple years, and then one day someone at one of our shows asked us how we got verified and Ty was like “We’re verified!?.” Haha. Ty was super excited… I had to ask what it meant!
Who do you compare your music to?
IC: That’s hard to say because while there are certain artists that heavily influence us or maybe we craft our sound around, it always comes out as our own interpretation of the art. For the last couple years I think that Ed Sheeran, Ben Rector and Green River Ordinance are some of the acts that have really done the vibey singer/songwriter thing better than anyone else out there so I’d hope that we are competing with their quality of sound in some way but at the same point in time I don’t think we really sound a whole lot like any of those guys.
If you could collaborate with any musician who would it be and why?
IC: I think Ryan Teder from One Republic would probably be our first choice. He is such a talented songwriter and always seems to be able to combine R&B, Radio pop, and homegrown singer/songwriter vibe into a cohesive sound.
Do you guys have any special talents?
IC: Well Ty is pretty strong, he played football in high school so he pretty much lived in the weight room during that time. I’m not sure if that is a talent or not but people always come up to him at shows and are like “Dude you’re way more jacked than I expected.” And ummm… I can touch my nose with my tongue? Though I think that isn’t really considered the talent anymore that everyone thought it was in middle school.
Craziest thing to ever happen to you?
IC: Our song “Favorite Girl” was featured on snapchat for their “Happy Valentines Day” snap from Team Snapchat. Totally unexpected and random!
If music wasn’t an option, what would you be doing now?
IC: Probably something to do with sports. Ty and I both love sports so I think it would be really cool to somehow be involved in the business side of sports.
Favorite song at the moment?
IC: “Chocolate” by the 1975. It’s just so catchy. (though I’m not condoning that anyone should smoke).
Favorite TV show?
IC: “Family Guy” pretty much defined our college life outside of classes. We both got into “How I Met Your Mother” a couple years ago though and we are both pretty emotional about it coming to an end!
Where do you see the band in 5 years?
IC: Probably doing a lot of the same things, but hopefully just on a bigger scale. I think we are past the point of really caring whether or not we ever “get signed.” I mean we are making music as a full-time job right now and we are getting bigger with every tour and every album release. While it’d probably go faster with a label supporting us, we can still be really successful doing it on our own. It’s also made us learn more skills like how to produce our own music or book our own shows. So we are a little more well-rounded for a long career in the music industry. We have opened up our own studio in addition to playing music as The Icarus Account so hopefully in 5 years that will have expanded as well!
Name one word that describes your band
IC: Tasty =)
